Computer Printing, Copying, and Faxing

Printing from WDL computers; wireless printing from your laptop? See below.

The library provides four printers. Charges and payment methods vary by printer. See below for details.
WDL_VREF_Duplex (B&W)
o Located in the virtual reference area
o Print/Copy Card required – $.05/page
o Double-sided printing is available. Make sure WDL_VREF_Duplex is the selected printer and click Properties. On the Layout tab, under Print on Both Sides, click Flip on Long Edge.
o Use the computer to the left of the printer to select your print job from the queue and follow the computer prompts. Print Jobs will remain in the queue for 24 hours.
WDL_NOTE (B&W)
o Located behind the circulation desk
o Cash/Check only – $.10/page
o A WDL employee will retrieve your print job and process your payment
Color Printing
o Cash/Check only – $.50/page
o See a staff member for further instruction
WDL_LC_Duplex (B&W)
o Located in the Learning Center
o Print/Copy Card required – $.05/page

Wireless Printing
You can print from your Windows operating system 32-bit laptop to the WDL_VREF_Duplex printer from anywhere you’re connected to USC wireless.
• Requirements
o USC wireless network connection
o Window-based computer with XP or higher (Sorry, no Macbooks or 64-bit Windows laptops yet)

• Procedures
o Download the printer driver by clicking on “WDL wireless printing” below. You only need to do this once for your laptop.
o Use the print command in the application, i.e., IE, Word, etc. and select the printer: WDL_VREF Wireless
o If you’re not printing your document immediately, note the document name and time of printing, so you can select the correct print job, as all printouts from wireless are identified as from iUSR and will remain in the queue for 24 hours.

WARNING:
By clicking the link below, you agree to allow a printer driver be installed on your computer and to not hold Health Sciences Libraries or USC liable for any damage or lost productivity that may result from such action.
WDL wireless printing (Internet Explorer 6 or higher is required to download the print driver to your laptop. If your default browser is not IE, then copy the URL: http://wdlprint.usc.edu/printers/ipp_0015.asp?eprinter=WDL~5fVREF~5fDuplex&view=p, open Internet Explorer, paste the link in the address bar and hit Enter.)

You will need to allow the Active X controls to run and to allow Windows to install the printer driver. You may have to adjust your security settings, but in most cases, you will be prompted by Windows to allow the actions.

Photocopying:
The library’s copy room houses two photocopiers:
• Card Copier (B&W)
o Print/Copy Card required – $.10/page
o Insert the copy card into the card reader to the left of the machine to operate the copier.

• Departmental Copier (B&W)
o A copy code is required to operate the departmental copier. Codes are supplied by departmental administrative assistants.

NOTICE: WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The Copyright Act of 1976 (Public Law 94‐553; Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain specified conditions, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

HSL Library Photocopy/Print Card:
The WDL_VREF and WDL_LC printers and the Card Copier require a HSL Library Photocopy/Print Card. Cards can be purchased from the card dispenser located in the copy room. The initial cost of a card is $1.00, 50¢ of which goes to the one-time purchase of the card. The debit card can be reused and the value replenished using the card dispenser which accepts $1 and $5 bills only.

Faxing:

Sending 4 pages or less: $2.00

Sending 5 pages or more: 50 cents per page after $2.00

Receiving 8 pages or less: $2.00

Receiving 9 pages or more: 25 cents per page after $2.00

Sending internationally: Additional $5.00 charge
